The drive to the Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Northeast Utah is a wide-open, high-desert, beautiful-but-abandoned-looking part of the state. We drove west from Laramie, Wyoming, on I-80, exited at Green River, Wyoming, then went 44 miles south to the Flaming Gorge Reservoir Recreation Area in Ashley National Forest. In late July, the road was an easy-going two-lane highway that dipped closer to sea level with brown, dusty terrain and interesting rock formations on either side of the road. LAKE PARK, GEORGIA THE PARK IS QUIET, METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND OFFERS ROUGHLY 160 SITES INCLUDING 11 TENT SITES. Off Exit 5 on Interstate 75, just north of Georgia’s Florida border, is Eagle’s Roost Campground, a hidden gem of a campground. Nestled under a thick canopy of mature oak trees and covered in moss, this beautiful RV park feels as if you’re worlds away, although it’s only minutes from the interstate. SAVANNAH, GEORGIA Conveniently located just a half mile off I95 is CreekFire RV Resort. Pulling down into the long drive, you begin to feel as if you are worlds away from the hustle and bustle of Interstate 95. A massive live oak tree drapes lazily across the drive, beckoning RVers to slow down, relax and settle into the slower pace that the South offers its visitors. There are so many great camping options in and around the Smoky Mountains and Pigeon Forge. Campgrounds range from basic to amenities galore and campgrounds can be found right off the main strip or off the beaten path. There are options inside the national park as well, like Elkmont, which is nestled along the river and hidden among the trees. Having visited this area many times over the years, we have stayed at quite a few different campgrounds. Here are a few of those.
